What is Meth Decontamination?

Methamphetamine decontamination — also called meth remediation — is the professional process of cleaning and decontaminating a property where methamphetamine has been manufactured, smoked, or used. When meth is manufactured or smoked indoors, the chemicals penetrate drywall, insulation, carpet padding, vent systems, ceiling tiles, and even subfloor materials. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment sets a strict surface contamination threshold of 0.5 micrograms per 100 square centimeters — and any property that exceeds that level is legally classified as contaminated and cannot be occupied until it has been professionally decontaminated and re-tested. At Prime Environmental, we are one of a small number of Colorado contractors certified to perform full meth decontamination. Whether you've purchased a home in Denver only to receive a positive surface test, you're a landlord whose Aurora rental was used as a smoking residence, or you're working with law enforcement and insurance to bring a property back online after a meth lab seizure, we provide decontamination fully compliant with CDPHE Regulation 6 CCR 1014-3.

Our CDPHE-Compliant Decontamination Workflow

Our meth decontamination process is designed to satisfy CDPHE Regulation 6 CCR 1014-3. Every project starts with a comprehensive pre-decontamination assessment. We perform composite and discrete surface sampling across living areas, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, HVAC components, and any other suspected contact zones. Samples are analyzed by an accredited lab, and the results map the contamination pattern, severity, and scope. From there, we develop a written decontamination work plan, file the required notification with the local health authority, and mobilize. We remove and dispose of contaminated porous materials, then perform multi-stage cleaning of all hard surfaces. HVAC systems are sealed during decontamination and cleaned or replaced as needed. After cleaning, we conduct a third-party post-decontamination clearance test. What you receive at closeout is a complete file with pre- and post-decontamination lab results, the work plan, photo documentation, disposal manifests, and the official clearance letter.

Understanding the Risks

Meth contamination poses serious health hazards requiring professional remediation. Long-term exposure to methamphetamine residue inside a home can cause respiratory problems, skin and eye irritation, headaches, sleep disturbances, and neurological symptoms — particularly in children.
Health Hazards
Exposure to meth residue can cause respiratory issues, skin irritation, headaches, nausea, and long-term neurological symptoms — especially in children.
State Regulations
Colorado requires professional decontamination to meet strict state standards before contaminated properties can legally be re-occupied.
Professional Required
Only certified professionals have the equipment and expertise to safely decontaminate meth-affected properties. DIY cleaning will not meet clearance.

How Meth Contamination Occurs

Understanding where and how methamphetamine contamination spreads through a property informs the decontamination approach.
Meth Production
Illegal methamphetamine labs release toxic chemicals that penetrate walls, floors, ceilings, and ventilation systems during the cooking process.
Meth Smoking
Smoking methamphetamine releases vapors that settle on surfaces throughout the property, contaminating carpets, furniture, and walls.
Ventilation Systems
HVAC systems circulate contamination throughout the building, spreading residue to every room and surface.
Porous Materials
Carpets, insulation, upholstery, and untreated drywall absorb chemical residue deeply, often requiring full removal.
Kitchens & Bathrooms
These areas show common production use due to water access and ventilation, leading to heavy contamination.
Hidden Spaces
Attics, crawl spaces, and basements often harbor contamination that’s discovered only through professional assessment.

Who Needs Meth Decontamination Services in Denver and Colorado

Meth decontamination is rarely a service people plan for. The people we work with most often in Colorado are property owners who just bought a home and discovered contamination, landlords who need a rental back on the market quickly and legally, and insurance adjusters managing a claim where contamination was discovered during another remediation event. Whatever the path that brought you here, the priorities are the same: you need a contractor who actually knows the regulation, who can give you a defensible scope, who has the certifications and disposal relationships to complete the work, and who hands you documentation that holds up to lender, insurer, and health-department scrutiny. Prime Environmental does meth decontamination work across Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and the surrounding Front Range communities — and we treat every project and every client confidentially.

What Our Clients Say

Real experiences from satisfied customers.

Prime Environmental removed some asbestos containing flooring for me in April 2026. It had to be removed due to failed sewer line that required concrete removal in basement. I am happy to report that Jessie Adame's team were very professional. They followed all safety protocols and gave me a competitive price. I was lucky the glue below the flooring does not contain asbestos so I can do that part myself and save some money. All of my questions were answered, everyone knew their job and were a pleasure to work with. They also provided me with complete records, including photos of the project and the air quality report showing compliance. I highly recommend them!

Rebecca Gomez

Homeowner

When we bought our house last year in a Denver suburb, we had no idea that some of the walls contained asbestos. Prime Environmental came to the rescue after a flood from a broken pipe caused a kitchen wall to collapse, leading to a major asbestos spill. The Prime crew responded quickly and efficiently to seal off the house and clean up the mess, communicating to us every step of the way. While we unfortunately had to dispose of a lot of personal property, including ALL our major appliances, due to asbestos contamination, Prime made every effort to clean and preserve as many items as possible. All along, the project manager Jessie and his crew said their first concern was satisfying us, the customers, and I can honestly say they did just that.

Jessie and his crew were beyond professional. The job was finished in the time they said it would take. Every time I called Jesse, he returned my call. Who does that these days? I would highly recommend this company and that says a lot.

Team Pacheco arrived on time and ready to work. The asbestos was in the lower level of the house. They quickly secured the area and did a through job of removing and then cleaning the rooms. I was extremely happy that they were able to complete the job In only 1 day. I highly recommend them !!

How do I know if my property has meth contamination?

Visible signs are unreliable — meth contamination is invisible, odorless, and shows no visual cue on most surfaces. The only way to know is through professional surface testing performed by a certified company. We offer comprehensive meth cleanup services across Denver and Colorado, and a clear lab report is the foundation of any decontamination plan.

Is meth decontamination always required?

If laboratory testing shows surface contamination above the Colorado state threshold of 0.5 micrograms per 100 square centimeters, professional decontamination is legally required before the property can be re-occupied. Below that threshold, decontamination is not legally mandated, though many owners still choose to clean for peace of mind.
